About Clare - The Knee Mentor

How It Started

Hi, I’m Clare, The Knee Mentor. My journey in physiotherapy began at Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen, where I studied from 1994 to 1998. I was fortunate enough to learn alongside and under some fantastic colleagues, gaining a really solid foundation as a Chartered Physiotherapist.

Early Career

After graduating, I completed my “junior” physio rotations at the “old” Falkirk and Edinburgh Royal Infirmaries. These experiences gave me a comprehensive education in various fields, including medicine of the elderly, ITU, HDU, trauma orthopaedics, respiratory, acute stroke, vascular, and amputee rehabilitation.

Continued Learning

As a graduate, I was lucky enough to continue learning from some of the greats in the field, such as Shirley Sahrmann, Peter O’Sullivan,Stuart McGill and Louis Gifford. Their insights and expertise profoundly shaped my approach to physiotherapy. I also continued my studies, earning a Certificate in Spinal Manual Therapy, a Diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine and AACP Acupuncture Certification.

Sports and Private Practice

Driven by a passion for sports and rehabilitation, I transitioned to work in sport and private practice. I had the privilege of working with football, hockey, rugby and curling teams, travelling to international tournaments and world championships. These experiences not only broadened my expertise but also deepened my commitment to helping athletes and patients perform at their best.

Independent Practice

In 2005, I took a significant step in my career by setting up my first independent private practice. By 2012, I moved into my own purpose-built practice premises as Physio Ecosse and established a quality team of like minded physios where we treated neuromusculoskeletal patients and specialised in the assessment and provision of functional knee bracing.

This period was incredibly fulfilling as I fused what I had learned in those early years with my time in high performance sport.  We helped countless individuals reduce their pain, restore their function, achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.

The Birth of The Knee Mentor

When COVID-19 hit in 2020, it necessitated a shift in how we supported our clients. The pandemic presented a unique challenge, but also an incredible opportunity to innovate. I embraced the challenge of caring for and supporting clients remotely and to my delight, many achieved even better results online!

Empowered to move and improve without relying solely on manual therapies, clients thrived! This eye-opening experience led to the creation of The Knee Mentor – dedicated to reaching motivated individuals with knee OA who struggle to access the expertise they need closer to home.

Commitment to Excellence

Throughout my career, I have been driven by a commitment to excellence and a passion for helping others. Whether working in hospitals, on sports fields, or in private practice, my goal has always been to provide the best possible care and support to my clients.

With The Knee Mentor, I continue this mission, offering tailored, evidence-based solutions to help you move from pain and limitation to strength and freedom.
